Makeover On A Budget

Is your home in need of a makeover but don’t have the budget for one? Here are some ideas to add a touch of character to your home with simple changes.

The Bathroom

Low Cost Option: Adding colour or texture through textiles and counter top accessories is a great way to add a little something to the room without spending. Invest in a few quality pieces such as a new soap dispenser, tooth brush holder, towels or a shower curtain.
Medium Cost Option: Investing in new hardware is an easy way to add to your bathroom. Choosing metals such as brass will help elevate the space.
High Cost Option: Try replacing fixtures such as lights and faucets. Choose shapes that are graceful and stylish in appearance.

The Bedroom

Low Cost Option: Create texture and colour with textiles such as pillows, duvet cover, shams and throws. Again, this is a great option as it is an easy way to incorporate trends because they are easy to switch out.
Medium Cost Option: Textured wall covering. I know what you’re thinking, wallpaper? This is a great way to create dimension, colour and movement. Although replaceable, be sure to choose something you won’t get tired of too quickly.
High Cost Option:  Investing in stylish furniture such as a headboard or dresser can add so much to your room. The headboard is the center piece of the room. Take the time to find one that you love to look at every day and night.

The Living Room

Low Cost Option: You guessed it; textiles. Add new pillows and throw blankets. To create character through textiles in a living room, less is more. Keep layering to a minimum to avoid a messy look.
Medium Cost Option: Purchase one-of-a-kind accessories. Look for artisanal items at antique stores that add interest to your living space. Keep accessories minimal and beautiful.
High Cost Option: Draperies are an excellent way to create drama, volume and length. Although easier to replace than wallpaper, floor to ceiling drapes are usually custom made and can get pricey. Be sure to choose fabric with minimal pattern. Keep your patterns within your interchangeable textiles.
